Working-Holiday Information

Opportunities beyond just visiting exist in Japan…

WORKING-HOLIDAY OPTION

  • Are you 18 years old or over and want to holiday & work in Japan? Japan offers a “Working Holiday” program for people 18-30 years old…stay and work for up to 12 months – details on requirements are on the Government of Canada site and the Government of Japan site here! More information on the process is from this ‘for profit’ company’s site (this is not an endorsement of the site or it’s business and any errors in information are theirs). Another great resource (and ignore their request for funding/signing up) is from Tofugu – a good summary of each step of the process.

JET PROGRAMME – after university opportunity

  • Keep in mind once you’ve finished university (any degree):  Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program . Several Pinetree students have done this. It is a Japanese government-sponsored program that offers university graduates full-time job opportunities as assistant language teachers or as coordinators of international relations (you don’t even need to speak Japanese to be considered). Each year, more than 200 Canadians participate. Applications open in the fall for departure the following summer. You must be a Canadian citizen and have a bachelor’s degree in any field before you leave for Japan.
