FOR THE WEATHER PART…

For the weather part of the assignment…find the weather words in Japanese in the Kenta stories. Put them on the page for each season. Eg. 冬：さむい・雪がふります。 Also think – how is the weather in Coquitlam…again using the weather words in Japanese from the stories..for example – in Japan the summer is ‘humid’ but is it humid here in the summer? . いいですか。　わかりますか？

You will be reviewing key items and reading about Kenta’s favourite seasons.

You will need the handout from the teacher. You will be recording your work there. You will get it after  you have gone over the instructions.

THIS IS NOT A RACE – take your time because these are key items for the next 10 days

You may need to check ‘word of the day’ for a word you might want to use…

You will need to log in to your 365 district account.

Then you can access the lesson powerpoint – REMEMBER you must PLAY the powerpoint in order for links to work (a copy of this powerpoint is in files in Teams – look for the Seasons folder)

IF Quizlet links don’t work they are also on the ‘Seasons Explore’ page

1. Handout page 3 – what is Kenji doing?

2. Handout page 2 – Choose 4 sets of pictures (there are 6). Write the sentences at the bottom of page 2. For each set write:

  • Where they are going to and how they are getting there.
    • EG. 　うみに　くるまで　いきます。　I go to the beach by car.
  • What they are doing at the place.
    • EG 　うみで　すいえいを　します。 At the beach they do swimming

Use what we have. IF YOU ARE TRYING FOR PLAIN FORM SENTENCE ENDINGS PLEASE INDICATE THAT. SEE FRIDAY’S HOMEWORK FOR LINKS AND HINTS

2) Your mystery location instructions….

3) Read all about コンビニ on Unit book page 41-43.

  1. Then on page 44 find 6 of the TOP 10 items on the Konbini layout map.
  2. Finally find two other items that you think you might buy at a Konbini (and didn’t know the Japanese word for…)

1. Page 44 – minimum: hiragana words only….but fully meet: use your chart and see if you can get a few of the katakana ones!

2. Page 32/33 –

  1. highlight all of the “places” on the pages – for each picture the place shows up two times.
  2. circle the activity word (eg. swimming).
  3. underline the ます word at the end of the sentence

Corrections due for “why” you’re going to a place

1) Page 24 – how would we express these sentences in Japanese – you do not have to directly translate but you are trying to communicate the meaning.

2) A look at ため: using page 22 I’d like you to take a brief look at this structure. On the “Learning Page” (link here) scroll until you see the “Sensei talks about ため” audio. Have a listen. Make any notes you wish. They go to the ‘self check’ and try to see if you ‘get it’.

SHRINE OR TEMPLE?  Page 39 and 40 – practice the kanji for Shinto shrine:  神社・じんじゃ　and Buddhist: お寺・おてら on page 39. Then on Page 40 test your existing knowledge of the difference between the two religions. When you are done – input your answers into this ‘online test’ to see if you were correct!

  • NOTE: the page numbers are incorrect. Notes are on page 18 and 19 (NOT page 15/16)
  • Vocabulary you may need: 雪だるま(snowman)、おせちりょうり(NY food)、雪がっせん(snowball fight)、おとしだま(NY money), つくります (to make)
  • NOTE: there is an error on the key – it should be おとしだま not ねんがじょう(that’s a new year’s card)
